It’s set up for the 5th to the 7th of December the 8th edtion of
the international competition dedicated to all extreme adventurers: 150 km no-stop ultarmarathon!
A real paradise of nature to discover its own limits. A completly different scenary from what we are used to,
far away from reality and from one’s imagination. This and lot’s more is the Boa Vista Ultramarathon, that from the 5th to the 7th
of December celebrates the 8th edition on the Island of Cap Vert, in Africa, where the desert and the ocean create a natural theatre.
From an Italian idea an anusual competion is born, the Boa Vista Ultramarathon which involves year by year many new adventurers.
But what’s exactly the Boa Vista Ultramarathon? Running under an avarage of 27° C, with a little difference in temperature
between day and night at low humidity levels, on a typically desert track. All competitores have 60 hours to cover the entire track
of 150 kilomtres: 60 hours to run and to face in complete self-sufficiency, with a knapsack with a sleeping bag and food,
and 24 litres of water to be used throughout the race distributed at the check points placed at a distance of 9 to 15 kiolmetres.
A good shape and strong legs are not enough to get to the arrive, a good sense of orienteering is essential, thanks to a road book
given by the organization as well as a detailed map, where one can find all the check-points where to rest and to supply with food
and water. Remember it’s very important, in this kind of events to make a good training and to study a good strategy, to rest
when necessary, to manage it’s own strenght. One can run under a very hot african sun and at night under a spectacular starry sky.
Who wins? Everyone who makes the arrive is a winner, aport from the official final list, but one can’t forget the overall prize of
more than 6.000 Euro to be shared between the many categories. There are two ways to participate: one can run and compete all alone
or in two (2 men, 2 women or mixed, 1 man and 1 woman), but if the attendance to the event is in couple, the two partner will have
to run together, without separating each other till the end. It’s not possible that the final prize is the only reason to enter
the Boa Vista Ultramarathon, it has to be more than this and certainly this competition, that attracts all participants,
is a unique and fascinating event that can create strong emotions that will stay in everyone’s memories forever.
Safety is a must! It happens very offen in extreme sport events, especially for those set up in desertic areas or in
isolated places, the participants usually run too many risks, without maybe even knowing it. But this is not what happens at
the Boa Vista Ultramarathon: a medical equipe follows the race through a continuous radio contact with the organizers, so
that they exactly know the situation during the entire race. The doctors will have the last word, this means they can stop
an athlete if they believe it is necessary, they can decide if an athlethe can continue or must stop.
An incredible and unique experience is waiting for brave adventurers, a special event that one cannot miss!
